"Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works" - John 14 v 10
As a believer there is a responsibility that we carry to continue the work of Jesus, to share the gospel, heal the sick and make disciples. This can often feel a pretty daunting task and we may question if we are really equipped for the job.
When Jesus spoke with the disciples before His death He spoke some beautiful words of encouragement. He recognised His own humanity and although faultless in every way, He understood that it was the Father working through Him that did the works. He was simply fully surrendered to do anything that God asked of Him. Jesus said in John 5 v 30 “I can of Myself do nothing.”
If we continue in John 14 Jesus explains that He would soon be going to His father but ‘At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.” v 20.
The same power and authority that Christ had we now carry as He now lives inside every born-again believer! We need to take our eyes off ourselves and recognise who we are in Christ. We are not just human, we have the power of God and the Holy Spirit. When we pray for the sick we have the professional healer doing the work and anythjng we ask in His name He will do (John 14 v 13).
We can have absolute confidence in what God can do because it is not dependent upon us to do the work. Thank you, Jesus!
